We thank you for trusting Old Dominion Home Care to provide assistance to your loved one as we remain focused on delivering the best care to our clients during the COVID-19 pandemic. ODHC routinely monitors and checks for updates from the CDC, Virginia Department of Health and local health departments to ensure we follow the most current guidance. In addition, we follow the standards put in place by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for personal care providers.

From the beginning of COVID-19, ODHC has worked at educating our staff on the virus. Training on the virus, transmission and mitigation was immediately done as new policies and protocols to address the virus were developed and implemented. Our training starts at new employee orientation and continues throughout an employee’s time with us.

Being vaccinated is a significant way to protect ourselves from COVID-19. We understand the peace of mind this provides to our clients, families and caregivers. Having a fully vaccinated staff remains a top priority for ODHC. We are proud to say that ODHC has achieved a 95% vaccination rate with 100% being our goal.

Protocols we have in place for COVID-19 include:

  • Ongoing training of staff to address new information on COVID guidelines as changes occur.
  • Adherence on infection control measures to use during work and also at home.
  • Wearing of facemasks while providing care and when in close contact with the client and visitors.
  • Completion of caregiver health screening prior to each shift worked by a caregiver.
  • Completion of client wellness questions by the caregiver at the start and at the end of each shift.
  • Self-monitoring by ODHC nurses and Senior Visitors for COVID symptoms prior to visiting a client.
  • Virtual visits to clients and caregivers as needed and requested.
  • Provision by ODHC of personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff to use when delivering care.
  • “Return to work” screening for staff when they have been ill.

Additionally, we ask clients to do the following to best protect themselves and staff who visit and provide care:

  • We ask for the client or responsible party to notify ODHC of a client’s possible exposure to, symptoms of, or positive COVID-19 test as soon as you become aware by calling the main office or After Hours.
  • Notification of other household members or visitors who may have been exposed to, or are symptomatic of, or tested positive with COVID-19 by calling the main office or After Hours.
  • We request that unvaccinated visitors in the client’s home wear a facemask during the time our staff are present.
  • We request the client have the following supplies in the home to aid in infection control: disposable facemasks for the client and visitor (to use for outings, errands etc.),  cleaning products for caregivers to use (EPA approved), liquid soap for handwashing and a thermometer.

The Old Dominion Home Care team is here to serve our clients and families and to help keep you safe and healthy during this very challenging time. We are always available to answer questions and discuss your loved one’s care.
